Joon-Suh is currently focused on developing designs and fabrications of large-area, mass-manufacturable metasurfaces operating at visible wavelengths in Capasso group at Harvard University as a PhD student. Before joining the Capasso group, Joon-Suh served as a Research Scientist at Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) for 5 years, where he worked on the design, fabrication and testing of optoelectronic devices ranging from solar cells (a-Si, III-V, and perovskite), quantum dot photodetectors, quantum dot LEDs, quantum cascade lasers, plasmonic structures, optical characterization techniques (photoluminescence measurement, time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy), to various semiconductor fabrication techniques (photolithography, plasma etching, metal evaporation, etc.). He also has experience of reconstructing and managing a small cleanroom for which he was awarded an Unsung Hero award by the president of KIST. Joon-Suh also worked on condensed-matter theory during his master’s degree study, where he calculated and studied electronic band structures of perturbed 2D hexagonal lattice system and a topological insulator Bi2Se3. He has authored and co-authored 19 peer-reviewed journal papers and contributed to 36 conference presentations. Joon-Suh is a recipient of Korean Government Scholarship for Study Overseas (2017), and has been awarded A Promising Young Scientist of Korea by the Korean Academy of Science and Technology (2016).
