On September 19, 2023, Clarivate named 23 researchers, including Professor Capasso, as Citation Laureates. These researchers have been identified as achieving Nobel-worthy research and Clarivate has successfully identified 71 Nobel Laureates prior to their Stockholm trip.

The citation reads: "For pioneering research on photonics, plasmonics, and metasurfaces, as well as contributions to the invention of and improvements on the quantum cascade laser".

According to Google Scholar in September 2023, Professor Capasso has in excess of 115 000 citations and a h-index of 159.
