Cascaded-mode interferometers
Our latest publication demonstrates a novel cascaded-mode interferometer which uses interference of multiple transverse modes within a single multimode waveguide to achieve arbitrary spectral shapes in a compact geometry. Through the use of engineered gratings, Jinsheng Lu et al. demonstrate manipulation of multiple light modes on a silicon-on-insulator chip, thus enabling advanced spectral shaping in a device which could replace bulky, multi-component systems in sensing, communications, and quantum photonics.
